Project of voivode’s instruction for the Jewish council of the Podole voivodeship

Stefan Humiecki, Podole voivode, prepared an instruction for his commissioners going to the upcoming Jewish council. The sub-voivode and voivodeship judge have been obliged to make sure that all the points from the instruction have been accomplished. The land marshal is obliged to account for his incomes and expenditures from last year. Treasury assignations were supposed to be signed by the general rabbi, marshal, land elders, and syndic. Land elders from previous councils are not allowed to serve as new land authorities. The allocation for communities in the Podole voivodeship should be 13,086 zlotys (including yearly salaries of the sub-voivode – 400 zlotys; voivodeship judge – 400 zlotys; and secretary – 100 zlotys), and, after the allocation is signed by land elders, it should be sent back to the voivode. Moreover, yearly salaries for Jewish officials (general rabbi – 300 zlotys, marshal – 250 zlotys, syndic – 200 zlotys) have been agreed upon. It was also agreed that Jewish elders arriving to the land council should receive between 12 and 15 zlotys per week. The voivode forbade the payment of debts drawn from the prepared allocation without his permission. The voivode also decided that he will receive 2,000 zlotys salary a year with a bonus of 590 zlotys for travelling to the Radom tribunal. The voivode’s estate, Sokolec, was supposed receive a discount from the amount of the poll tax.
